NHS Wales Junior Doctor Industrial Action

We have received confirmation from the BMA, via the Health Board, of intended industrial action by Junior Doctors, including GP Registrars, in Wales for a 72-hour period commencing at 7am Wednesday 21st February 2024 and concluding 7am on Saturday 24th February 2024. The BMA has confirmed that there are no derogations (exceptions) and the strike is a full walkout by Junior Doctors.

As a result of this action, there may be a reduced medical staffing compliment during industrial action at Four Elms which will result in reduced capacity at the surgery during the strike period.

To support services and colleagues during this period, we are calling on our patients to choose services responsibly and self-care at home where possible if you do not require urgent health care.

Regardless of any strike action taking place, it is really important that patients who need urgent medical care continue to come forward as normal, especially in urgent & emergency cases. Please also attend any pre-booked appointments as these will continue as normal.

Please be aware that many minor illnesses can be treated at home using over-the-counter medication available at your community pharmacist. Pharmacies can offer over-the-counter advice and treat common illnesses such as colds, sore throats, stings, and allergies through the common ailment scheme. You can also purchase medications such as paracetamol from supermarkets, so we urge you to make sure you have medicines at home to look after yourselves and your family.

If you are unsure what care you need, please use the NHS 111 Wales Symptom Checker in the first instance where you can access healthcare advice.

We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause you and your families.
